The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC Governorship Primaries Committee in Kwara State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has assured party members and stakeholders that the governorship primary election scheduled for Friday will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
In a statement issued ahead of the exercise, Obanikoro said all necessary arrangements had been completed to ensure a smooth and credible process across the state. He disclosed that election materials would be distributed before Jumat prayers, while voting would commence simultaneously in all 16 local government areas immediately afterward.
According to him, the committee is fully prepared to conduct the primary election in line with the directives of the APC national headquarters and in strict compliance with the party’s electoral guidelines.
Obanikoro also revealed that the committee recently held a strategic meeting with all governorship aspirants at the APC State Secretariat in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. During the meeting, aspirants were briefed on the electoral procedures and guidelines that would govern the exercise.
He explained that the engagement gave aspirants the opportunity to raise concerns and seek clarification regarding the conduct of the primary election. The committee, he noted, reassured all contestants of an inclusive and transparent process.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts to achieve consensus among aspirants, Obanikoro stated that the committee remained fully ready to organise a credible and peaceful election if consensus arrangements failed.
He stressed that the committee remains the only body officially authorised by the party and relevant laws to conduct, conclude, and announce the outcome of the governorship primary election in Kwara State.
The APC chieftain further announced that designated Local Government Election Officers appointed by the committee would converge to receive election materials before proceeding to their respective local government areas for the commencement of voting.
Obanikoro urged party members, aspirants, and stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise and embrace the spirit of unity and sportsmanship. He reiterated the committee’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and the overall success of the APC in the state.
