Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has not selected or endorsed any individual as a successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election according to his media aide Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju who addressed circulating claims on social media.

In a statement released in Ibadan on Thursday Olanrewaju clarified that the governor remains engaged in broad consultations with stakeholders across the state and has not finalized any decision regarding succession.

He dismissed reports that Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi had been chosen as the preferred candidate noting that such information is inaccurate and not authorized by the governor or his office.

According to him the governor will publicly announce any preferred aspirant only after ongoing consultations are completed and when the time is appropriate for such disclosure.

Adekanmbi a former commissioner for finance during the administration of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi has continued to participate actively in governance discussions within Oyo State In 2025 he was appointed to chair the committee overseeing the upgrade of Ibadan Airport which further elevated his visibility in state development projects.

Political analysts in the state say the rumours have already generated debate within the Peoples Democratic Party and among opposition groups as preparations and alignments toward the 2027 elections gradually intensify across Oyo State.

There are also unconfirmed speculations that the governor may at some point declare support for a candidate and potentially unveil a new political direction but officials insist no such decision has been made.

The media office reiterated that attention should focus on governance delivery ongoing infrastructure projects and citizen welfare rather than succession politics at this stage of the administration and urged the public to disregard speculative reports circulating online regarding endorsements or political alignments ahead of the next election cycle in the state They emphasized commitment to transparency and democratic consultation processes moving forward today
