The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to operators of articulated vehicles, tankers, and trucks, urging them to strictly comply with traffic laws and speed limits or face severe legal consequences.
The warning was issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, following a serious road crash involving a heavy-duty truck conveying Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and a privately owned vehicle at the crest of Apakun Bridge, inward Oshodi.
Giwa said preliminary investigations revealed that the truck, with registration number EKY 120 YK, was speeding and violated elished traffic safety standards before ramming into a moving silver-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number EKY 289 HM. He explained that the impact of the collision caused severe traffic disruption and posed grave danger to lives and property in the area.
According to him, two pedestrians were hit in the course of the accident, while the driver of the Toyota Corolla sustained serious and life-threatening injuries. Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were said to have responded swiftly, rescuing and extricating the injured victims from the wreckage.
The injured pedestrians and the driver were immediately taken to a nearby medical facility, where they are currently receiving intensive medical care. Giwa added that operatives of the Ajao Estate Police Division provided security support at the scene to prevent further incidents and ensure a smooth emergency operation.
Due to the highly combustible nature of the truck’s CNG cargo, personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were also deployed to avert any secondary disaster.
Giwa condemned the increasing rate of road accidents caused by reckless speeding, particularly by operators of trucks and tankers, describing the behavior as grossly irresponsible and dangerous. He stressed that the Lagos State Government would not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law against anyone found endangering lives through unlawful driving practices.

I think the Lagos Govt should also provide more designated parking areas for trucks and tankers to prevent congestion on the roads.
