The First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo Olu, has commended Wema Bank for its continued commitment to women empowerment and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.
She gave the commendation during the bank 2026 celebration of International Women’s Day held on March 4 in Lagos. The event attracted dignitaries public figures and women leaders from different sectors who gathered to discuss issues relating to women empowerment financial inclusion and economic participation.
Speaking at the gathering the First Lady applauded the leadership of Wema Bank for initiating programmes and financial solutions designed to support women across the country. According to her the bank has played an important role in creating opportunities that enable women to grow their businesses and improve their economic standing.
Mrs Sanwo Olu also conveyed goodwill from the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo Olu who she said remains committed to policies and programmes that promote gender inclusion and support the advancement of women.
She emphasised that financial inclusion is one of the most powerful tools for strengthening women economic independence. Access to credit savings investment opportunities and digital banking platforms according to her allows women to expand their businesses support their families and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The First Lady also praised the bank for designing financial products and platforms that specifically address the needs of women. She explained that such initiatives help women build economic confidence and encourage them to pursue greater opportunities.
According to her empowering women goes beyond a single event and requires consistent efforts from government institutions financial organisations private companies civil society groups and families.
The event featured several prominent personalities including Beatrice Eyong, Funke Akindele, Waje and Daniel Etim Effiong among others who discussed the importance of expanding opportunities for women across different sectors of society.
