Two persons sustained severe injuries on Sunday following a multiple vehicle accident involving a commercial motorcyclist operating illegally on the Iyana Iba Flyover inward Volkswagen axis along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The accident involved a commercial motorcycle and two vehicles, a Lexus saloon car with registration number SMK 504 KH and a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU 308 HN. The crash occurred when the Lexus driver reportedly collided with the motorcycle while it was being ridden on a restricted flyover corridor in violation of Lagos State transport regulations.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the impact of the collision forced the motorcycle into the Toyota Corolla ahead, resulting in a chain reaction crash that left the rider and his male passenger badly injured.

The victims were said to have sustained severe injuries including fractures and multiple bodily wounds. They were quickly rescued at the scene by LASTMA officials, passersby, and other motorists before being rushed to Oyems Hospital in the Iyana Iba area for urgent medical treatment.

LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed that officers stationed around the axis responded swiftly to secure the accident scene, prevent further crashes, and manage traffic congestion caused by the incident.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, expressed sympathy to the injured victims and wished them a quick recovery. He also used the opportunity to reiterate the government ban on commercial motorcycles operating on restricted routes such as highways and flyovers, stressing that such violations continue to endanger lives and disrupt traffic order in Lagos.

He urged motorcycle operators to comply strictly with existing traffic laws designed to protect all road users and reduce avoidable accidents across the state.
