The Lagos State Government has served notices to quit on occupants of structures erected under high tension power lines in the Alagbado Oke Odo axis, marking several buildings for removal over encroachment on designated Right of Way corridors.

The enforcement operation was carried out by the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority along AIT Road, where officials issued contravention notices to squatters and property owners found violating physical planning regulations.

The exercise followed directives from the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle planning infractions and environmental hazards within the corridor.

Representing the General Manager of LASISMA, Daisi Oso, the enforcement team marked buildings constructed directly beneath or dangerously close to high tension cables and directed affected occupants to vacate the restricted areas in line with safety and urban planning standards.

According to the agency, the operation is aimed at safeguarding lives and property, reducing environmental and electrical risks, and ensuring strict compliance with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 as amended. LASISMA stressed that illegal structures situated under or near high tension cables pose serious dangers, including electrocution, fire outbreaks, and obstruction of critical infrastructure corridors.

In a related move, officials of LASISMA held a meeting with leaders of the Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area to strengthen inter agency collaboration on land use compliance and promote sustainable urban development.

The enforcement drive forms part of the broader commitment of the Lagos State Government to uphold planning standards, protect residents from avoidable hazards, and ensure a safer and more orderly environment across the state.
