The South West National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has claimed that key figures within the party, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, have agreed in principle to support the re election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on News Central, Arabambi said the alleged decision was based on the belief that the presidency should remain in the South-West region to complete an eight year cycle. He argued that the arrangement reflects a regional understanding rather than a broader southern consensus.

The claim comes amid ongoing internal tensions within the Labour Party following the 2023 elections.

Arabambi also dismissed the possibility of the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returning to the Labour Party. According to him, party stakeholders have already resolved to move in a different direction due to internal disputes and unresolved crises.

He criticised former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman, accusing her of attempting to push Obi back into the party. Arabambi alleged that her efforts were driven by concerns that Obi might not secure the presidential ticket under a coalition-backed African Democratic Congress.

Describing her actions as misguided, Arabambi insisted that the party’s position on supporting Tinubu’s second term remains firm, while urging those advocating Obi’s return to abandon the idea.

The development highlights deepening divisions within the Labour Party as political alignments and strategies for the 2027 general elections continue to take shape.
