A coalition of groups under the Lagos State Prominent Indigenes Forum (LASPI) has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he remains the most suitable candidate for continued leadership.
The endorsement was made in a communiqué issued at the end of a summit titled Promoting Greater Participation of Lagos State Indigenes in Governance and Politics, held at Eko Club in Surulere, Lagos.
The communiqué, signed by the convener, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, and other prominent Lagos indigenes, followed discussions attended by traditional leaders, academics, and representatives from indigenous associations across the five IBILE divisions of the state.
The summit, chaired by Dr Michael Olawale Cole, featured keynote presentations from Professor Olanrewaju boun and Professor Olumuyiwa Noah, focusing on political participation and indigenous representation.
Participants unanimously expressed support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing his leadership as central to Nigeria’s development and ility. They also endorsed his continued stay in office beyond 2027, stating that no other candidate matches his experience and capacity.
The forum also used the occasion to encourage greater political involvement among Lagos indigenes, urging them to move from passive observation to active participation in governance and electoral processes.
According to the communiqué, stakeholders agreed on the need for stronger collaboration across IBILE divisions, increased civic education, and improved youth engagement in politics. They also emphasised the importance of preserving cultural values while adapting to modern political realities.
The summit further called for enhanced use of digital platforms, deeper political awareness, and strengthened traditional leadership structures to promote unity and development within indigenous communities.
Participants commended the convener for organising the forum and recommended that such engagements be held regularly to sustain political awareness and community development.
In conclusion, the forum reaffirmed that the future influence and prosperity of Lagos State indigenes depend on unity, organisation, and active participation in governance while restating its full support for President Tinubu’s second term ambition in 2027.
