Kelechi Iheanacho delivered a decisive performance as Celtic F.C. secured a 2 1 victory against Hibernian F.C. at Easter Road on Sunday.
The important away win keeps Celtic firmly in contention for the Scottish Premiership title, as the season approaches a decisive stage. With pressure mounting, every point remains crucial in the tightly contested race.
Celtic opened the scoring shortly before halftime through Daizen Maeda, who calmly finished from close range after a well worked ing move. The goal gave the visitors momentum heading into the break.
However, Hibernian responded almost immediately in first half stoppage time. Joe Newell found the equaliser, bringing the home side level and energising the crowd.
The match remained finely balanced until Iheanacho was introduced in the 70th minute, replacing Yang Hyun jun. The Nigerian forward wasted no time making his presence felt, scoring just two minutes after coming on to restore Celtic’s lead.
His strike ultimately proved to be the match winner, marking his seventh goal across all competitions this season and underlining his importance to the squad.
Under the guidance of Martin O Neill, Celtic currently sit second in the league standings, level on points with leaders Heart of Midlothian F.C., who still have a game in hand.
