Ibom Air has donated 50,000 doses of anti malaria medicines to the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health as part of efforts to reduce the burden of malaria among children and pregnant women in affected communities.

The donation was announced in Uyo by the airline’s Group Manager for Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette, who said the intervention is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme known as FAMPact, focused on fighting malaria in vulnerable populations.

The medical supplies include 30,000 doses of Sulfadoxine Pyriamine, 10,000 doses of Lokmal DT, and 10,000 doses of Paracetamol DT. They were officially presented by Ibom Air Chief Executive Officer George Uriesi to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel John, on behalf of the state government.

The airline said the donation marks the third consecutive year of such intervention, reflecting its ongoing commitment to public health support in malaria prevention and treatment efforts.

Malaria remains one of Nigeria’s most serious public health challenges, particularly affecting pregnant women and children under five. Health experts continue to stress the importance of prevention, early treatment, and community awareness in reducing fatalities linked to the disease.

As part of this year’s World Malaria Day activities, Ibom Air also announced plans for a public awareness walk tagged Walk Against Malaria, scheduled to hold in Uyo. The event will begin at Ibom Plaza and will include health education sessions, fitness activities, and community sensitisation campaigns.

Medical influencer Dr Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, is expected to participate in the campaign to help amplify awareness on malaria prevention strategies.

The initiative aligns with global efforts under the theme Driven to end malaria, Now we can, Now we must, emphasizing the urgency of sustained action against the disease.
