Former Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Eti Osa Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, Hassan Zamani, has defected to the National Democratic Congress and declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Eti Osa Federal Constituency ahead of the next general elections.
Zamani announced his defection during a political gathering held in Abuja on Monday, which was attended by party supporters, community stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders and political associates.
He said his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party was driven by what he described as the need to provide purposeful representation and build a broader political movement capable of addressing the developmental needs of his constituency.
The former Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant said the National Democratic Congress offers a platform for inclusive leadership and grassroots driven governance, adding that his move was a strategic step toward reshaping the political direction of Eti Osa.
According to him, “This movement is beyond politics; it is about the people. The people of Eti Osa deserve leadership that listens, empowers, and delivers real development.”
He described his defection as a bold and necessary step aimed at “rescuing the future” of Eti Osa Constituency 02 and strengthening political engagement at the grassroots level.
Zamani also formally declared his ambition to represent Eti Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the NDC platform, noting that his political vision is focused on development, inclusion and effective representation.
He appreciated his former party, the PDP, for the opportunities and relationships he built while under its platform but insisted that the constituency required a wider coalition to achieve meaningful progress.
Several of his supporters, including ward coordinators, mobilisers and grassroots political structures, followed him in the defection and pledged support for his new political direction.
Supporters at the event described the move as a significant political development, citing Zamani’s influence among youths, women and community based groups in Eti Osa.
