Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has said his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections rests solely in the hands of God, stressing that his current priority is governance and the welfare of the people rather than political calculations.

The governor made the statement on Saturday during the distribution of motorcycles to social media handlers drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state. According to him, decisions about the future are divinely determined, and his administration remains focused on uplifting Kano and addressing its challenges.

“Whatever decision we take, it is God that destined it, and we believe He will guide us. For me, the people come first, before 2027,” Yusuf said.

He called for unity among residents, noting that genuine collective efforts to improve the state would naturally resolve political concerns. The governor also reflected on the uncertainty of life, emphasising that no one can predict tomorrow, let alone events as far ahead as 2027.

“Only God knows tonight, tomorrow or next who will live to see them, not to even talk about 2027. If God decides it is us, so be it, and if He decides otherwise, it is still His will,” he added.

Governor Yusuf cautioned social media influencers against promoting division and hatred, urging them instead to use their platforms to foster unity and positive engagement across the state. He explained that the distribution of motorcycles was meant to appreciate the social media handlers who played key roles during his campaign, reaching communities across Kano.

Meanwhile, the absence of the Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, at the event has fueled speculation of a growing rift within the state’s leadership. The event marked Yusuf’s first major public appearance following his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.

Observers noted that Gwarzo, who had previously accompanied the governor to similar events, was conuously missing. In recent weeks, the deputy governor has been seen aligning more closely with NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, further intensifying political tensions in the state.
