Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been screened by the Senatorial Aspirants Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the party’s primaries for the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The screening exercise took place in Abuja between May 9 and May 10 as part of the APC’s internal process aimed at confirming the eligibility of aspirants and ensuring that candidates seeking elective positions are free from legal or electoral issues before the primaries.

A senior aide to the governor, Bashira Kolawole, confirmed the development during an interview in Ilorin on Tuesday. However, she declined to provide further details regarding the outcome of the screening or the governor’s future political plans.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who is expected to complete his second and final term in office on May 29, 2027, is currently reported to be the only aspirant seeking the APC ticket for the Kwara Central Senatorial District. Reports indicate that he emerged as the sole party member who purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms for the senatorial seat.

The development is widely seen as a strong indication that the governor intends to remain influential in Kwara State politics after leaving office. Political observers believe the move could significantly shape the political structure and succession plans within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, the incumbent senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Salihu Mustapha, has reportedly obtained the APC governorship nomination form, setting the stage for what could become a highly competitive governorship race within the Kwara APC.

The unfolding political developments have already begun attracting attention as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually intensify across the country.
