Bala Mohammed Celebrates Journalists, Reaffirms Commitment to Press Freedom

Bala Mohammed has emphasised the importance of a free and responsible media, describing it as a cornerstone of any progressive society.

The governor made this known in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, to mark World Press Freedom Day. The annual event celebrates the role of journalists and highlights the need to uphold press freedom across the world.

In his message, Mohammed commended journalists in Bauchi State and across Nigeria for their resilience, courage, and professionalism in the face of challenges. He praised their continued dedication to truth, accountability, and public enlightenment, noting that their work plays a vital role in strengthening democracy.

According to the statement, the governor acknowledged the media’s critical function in promoting transparency and fostering good governance. He stressed that societies can only progress when the press operates freely and responsibly without undue interference.

“As a government, we recognise and deeply appreciate the sacrifices made by journalists in ensuring that citizens are well informed,” he said, adding that their commitment contributes significantly to democratic ility.

Mohammed also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a media friendly environment in Bauchi State. He assured that journalists would continue to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation, while encouraging them to uphold ethical standards such as accuracy, objectivity, and fairness.

Furthermore, he called on stakeholders to support and protect press freedom, describing it as a fundamental human right essential for sustainable development.

The governor urged media practitioners to remain steadfast and embrace innovation as the industry evolves, wishing journalists a successful World Press Freedom Day celebration.
