Popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has revealed why she no longer attends physical church services, citing constant public attention as the major reason behind her decision.
In a Snapchat video shared on Sunday, the actress explained that whenever she goes to church, the focus often shifts from worship to her presence, as many attendees try to take pictures with her. According to her, the repeated distractions made it difficult to fully participate in the service.
She noted that instead of engaging in worship, she ends up becoming the center of attention, which defeats the purpose of attending church. As a result, she has opted to join services online where she can worship without interruptions.
Akindele stated that the move allows her to maintain her spiritual life privately while avoiding the challenges that come with her celebrity status in public spaces.
The actress had previously spoken about her faith, revealing in 2022 that she identifies with the Celestial Church of Christ. At the time, she shared that she often visited the church quietly at night during difficult moments before deciding to openly acknowledge her affiliation.
Her recent comments highlight the impact of fame on personal and spiritual experiences, as public figures often struggle to maintain privacy in everyday activities.
