The Ekiti State Police Command has issued a strong warning to politicians and their supporters against engaging in unlawful activities that could disrupt peace as campaigns intensify ahead of the June 20 governorship election.

Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, stated in Ado Ekiti that the command is closely monitoring political activities and will not hesitate to act against anyone found guilty of inciting violence or destruction of property.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged residents to remain law abiding and report any suious or disruptive behaviour to security agencies immediately.

The police expressed concern over reports of vandalism involving the destruction and defacing of political posters and billboards across the state. It warned that such actions violate the Electoral Act and undermine democratic principles, including freedom of expression.

Authorities stressed that political actors must ensure their supporters conduct themselves responsibly throughout the campaign period. The command warned that individuals caught engaging in electoral offences will face strict legal consequences.

The police also called on parents and guardians to caution their children against being used by politicians to carry out acts that could threaten peace and security in the state.

As part of efforts to maintain order, the command encouraged members of the public to use its emergency line, 08062335577, to report any incidents that could jeopardize the electoral process.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the police to ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible election in Ekiti State, while urging all stakeholders to prioritise peace over political rivalry.
