The Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State has dismissed a police sergeant identified as Osayingbemi Temitope following his involvement in an incident linked to alleged illicit drug use.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson SP Sunday Abutu in Ado Ekiti. According to the statement the officer was seen in a viral video behaving erratically in Ikole Ekiti on May 9 after reportedly consuming illegal substances.

Abutu explained that the police authorities immediately subjected the officer to medical and psychological examinations alongside internal disciplinary procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The command revealed that the psychological evaluation confirmed the officer was emotionally le while medical tests detected traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system. During the investigation the dismissed officer reportedly admitted to taking illicit drugs.

Following the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings the officer was found guilty of misconduct and recommended for dismissal from the force. The recommendation was later approved leading to his immediate removal from service.

The police spokesperson stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to maintaining discipline professionalism and integrity within its ranks. He noted that the command would not tolerate any conduct capable of damaging the reputation of the force or undermining public confidence.

Abutu also disclosed that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Falade Michael has urged officers and personnel under the command to uphold accountability professionalism and ethical conduct while carrying out their responsibilities.

The incident has sparked reactions online after the viral video circulated widely across social media platforms with many Nigerians calling for stricter monitoring and welfare support for security personnel.
