The All Progressives Congress, APC, has asserted that its meticulous preparation for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Council elections rivaled that of a national contest, leaving little room for opposition challenges.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Secretary of the APC Campaign Council, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, attributed the party’s expected victory to hard work and a “popular campaign” rooted in the administration’s infrastructure achievements. Representing Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who chairs the 138-member APC FCT Campaign Council, Kalu, alongside the Minister of State in the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmood, conducted an extensive observation tour across the capital.

The delegation visited key locations, including the Presidential Villa Polling Unit, the Agura Hotel axis, and the Garki village polling unit of APC AMAC candidate Christopher Maikalangu. Speaking at the APC Situation Room in the Kwara Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Kalu highlighted the party’s sophisticated feedback system, which monitored over 2,000 polling units, as evidence of its commitment to democratic accountability.

“We treated this as a national election, not just a municipal contest. Our infrastructure campaigned for us, and we have worked hard,” he said. The council commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for early logistics deployment and the professionalism of its ad-hoc staff, noting the timely presence of materials and well-trained youth corps members. The IReV portal was reportedly used in strict compliance with the Electoral Act, ensuring transparency.

While praising security agencies for maintaining peace, Kalu raised concerns about voter apathy in urban areas, urging citizens to embrace “participatory democracy.” He emphasized that the growth of democracy depends on citizens actively voting rather than merely criticizing the government post-election.
