UK Envoy Praises AbdulRazaq for Promoting Women Inclusion and Digital Innovation in Kwara

British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria Gill Lever has praised Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting women’s rights and political inclusion, describing Kwara as a leading example of gender equity in Nigeria.

The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola.

Speaking during a visit to Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, Lever applauded the governor for appointing more than 50 percent of women into cabinet positions and supporting the special seats bill aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance.

According to the British envoy, Kwara State under AbdulRazaq’s leadership has become a trailblazer for women’s political representation and participation in public service. She noted that women’s inclusion in leadership and lawmaking remains essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

Lever also commended the governor for earning recognition as a HeForShe ambassador through his support for gender equality and women empowerment initiatives.

During the visit, the envoy disclosed that the United Kingdom government is partnering with Nigerian states to improve digital ss and encourage innovation among young people in the technology sector.

She explained that the delegation’s visit to the Ilorin Innovation Hub was aimed at assessing the impact of UK supported programmes focused on developing technology ss and expanding opportunities for innovators.

According to Lever, the UK digital access programme is helping young Nigerians build ss, access global opportunities, and improve employment prospects in the tech industry. She added that a newly launched community hub in Olayinka, Ifelodun Local Government Area, is expected to provide digital access and technology training for more than 50,000 residents.

On Nigeria’s upcoming elections, Lever stressed that the British Government remains neutral and only supports peaceful, credible, and inclusive democratic processes without favouring any political party.

Responding, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted achievements recorded by his administration in health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and workers welfare since assuming office in 2019.
