Dayo Amusa Laments Cost and Uncertainty of Nigerian Politics

Dayo Amusa has voiced strong frustration over the realities of Nigerian politics, describing the process of securing party tickets as unpredictable, costly, and emotionally draining.

In a series of posts shared on X on Sunday, the Nollywood actress criticised what she sees as a disconnect between political promises and actual outcomes during party primaries. According to her, many aspirants invest heavily both financially and personally, only to be left disappointed when the results do not reflect earlier assurances.

Amusa noted that despite building popularity and engaging with party stakeholders, aspirants often struggle to secure even minimal support when it matters most. She alleged that political leaders frequently make commitments that are not honoured, leaving candidates stranded after primaries.

She also questioned the sincerity of political figures who, she claims, offer encouragement publicly but fail to follow through privately. In her words, aspirants are sometimes addressed as “incoming” candidates even when decisions have already been made behind closed doors.

The actress further described the system as deceptive, arguing that some politicians knowingly give false hope while simultaneously backing rival candidates. She warned that such practices contribute to a lack of transparency and trust within the political process.

Highlighting the emotional toll, Amusa said politics is not for the faint hearted, noting how quickly fortunes can ce from confidence to uncertainty. She added that those who fail to secure tickets are often faced with tough decisions, including waiting for another election cycle or defecting to less competitive parties.

Her comments have added to ongoing conversations about internal party democracy and the challenges faced by aspirants in Nigeria’s political landscape.
