Veteran Nigerian actor Abdul Salam Taofeek, professionally known as Tioruju Mondusi, has opened up about what he describes as the most painful betrayal of his life, revealing that two of his five children are not biologically his. Speaking candidly on the African A-List podcast, the seasoned performer shared intimate details of a marital crisis that shattered his world and ultimately ended in tragedy.

The actor recounted returning from a filming location approximately five years ago to find his home empty and his wife, who was nine months pregnant with what he believed to be their fifth child, unreachable by phone. After two days of frantic searching and unanswered calls, Taofeek finally made contact with his spouse, only to be met with silence regarding her whereabouts. What he discovered next would fundamentally alter his understanding of his own family.

Upon visiting his mother in law’s residence to file a complaint about his missing wife, Taofeek stumbled upon photographic evidence that his pregnant spouse had conducted a traditional introduction ceremony with another man, one who was already married with four children of his own. Confronting his wife by phone led to heated exces, but nothing could have prepared him for what came next. She returned to their home not with apologies but with accusations, brazenly questioning whether he was actually the father of her unborn child.

Days after giving birth, his wife made the astonishing request to hold the newborn’s traditional naming ceremony at Taofeek’s home, despite having publicly disputed his paternity. Outraged by what he perceived as profound disrespect, the actor took the drastic step of involving law enforcement, having his wife arrested along with her companion and a friend who had come to mediate. Court proceedings for the dissolution of their marriage revealed an even more devastating truth: not only was the newborn not his biological child, but their third child was also fathered by the same man with whom she had been conducting an affair for years.

The woman at the center of this domestic storm passed away last year, reportedly suffering from depression after the man she left her family for ultimately abandoned her to return to his own wife and four children. According to Taofeek, the man hailed from Ijebu in Ogun State and chose to preserve his existing marriage rather than continue the relationship that had destroyed the actor’s family. When asked during the podcast interview whether there was anyone he had been unable to forgive due to the depth of pain inflicted, Taofeek acknowledged his late wife as that person, though he tempered his words by praying for God’s mercy upon her soul.

Beyond the personal anguish, Taofeek’s story raises broader questions about paternity rights, marital fidelity, and the emotional toll such revelations take on families across Nigeria and beyond. While paternity fraud remains a taboo subject in many communities, cases like this highlight the devastating psychological impact on men who discover they have been raising children not biologically their own. As Nollywood continues to grow as a global cultural force, the willingness of its veterans to share deeply personal struggles may help destigmatize conversations around complex family issues and encourage more open dialogue about relationships, trust, and healing in the wake of betrayal.
