The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards AMVCA took place on Saturday night at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, celebrating excellence in African film, television, and digital storytelling.
The prestigious event, one of the biggest entertainment ceremonies on the continent, recognised outstanding performances across acting, directing, production, and digital content categories.
Big Winners of the Night
My Father’s Shadow emerged as one of the biggest winners of the night, claiming the Best Overall Movie award as well as Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr. and Best Cinematography.
In the television category, Inimba dominated the Best Scripted Series category, further cementing its reputation as one of the standout productions of the year.
Other major winners included Nigerian Idol, which won Best Unscripted Series, and Hussaini, which clinched Best Short Film.
Acting Categories
In the acting categories, Linda Ejiofor won Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift, while Uzor Arukwe took home Best Lead Actor for Colours of Fire.
Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for To A Monkey, while Linda Ejiofor also secured Best Supporting Actress for The Herd.
Veteran actress Sola Sobowale and actor Kanayo O. Kanayo received Industry Merit Awards for their contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
Technical and Creative Awards
The technical categories saw Daniel Anyiam winning Best Editing for To A Monkey, while Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra won Best Sound Design for My Father’s Shadow.
Jermaine Edwards also picked up Best Cinematography for My Father’s Shadow, reinforcing the film’s dominance across multiple categories.
Indigenous Language and Regional Categories
Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won Best Indigenous Language Film West Africa, while Addis Fikir took the East Africa category.
In South Africa, Tlhaho Ya Mosadi won Best Indigenous Language Film, and Artal Alhanin Our Memories won the North Africa category.
Digital and Unscripted Content
Emmanuel Kanaga and Sophia Chisom won Best Digital Content Creator, highlighting the growing influence of online media in African storytelling.
The awards also recognised excellence in unscripted content, with Nigerian Idol S10 taking Best Unscripted M Net Original.
Special Recognition
The Trailblazer Award went to Uche Montana for emerging talent, recognising her rising impact in the film industry.
The AMVCA 2026 edition once again showcased the depth of African storytelling talent, with strong representation across film, television, and digital platforms.
From major film wins to breakthrough performances, the night highlighted the continued growth and global competitiveness of African entertainment.
