A political group, the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027, has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as the most qualified leader to address Nigeria’s current challenges, confirming plans to position him for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at an international press conference in Abuja, the coalition’s president, Tom Ohikere, said the group is mobilising support both within Nigeria and across the diaspora to facilitate Jonathan’s return to national leadership.

Ohikere described the coalition as a unifying platform bringing together various support groups with a shared goal of restoring ility, reviving economic confidence, and promoting responsible governance. He pointed to pressing national issues such as inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and currency inility as reasons for seeking experienced leadership.

According to him, Jonathan’s extensive political background, spanning roles from deputy governor to president, positions him as a capable figure to lead Nigeria again. He added that the former president’s track record reflects a strong commitment to democratic values and institutional ility.

The coalition also emphasised the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring credible elections, and upholding the rule of law. It noted that inclusive governance and national unity remain critical to reducing political tension across the country.

Highlighting past achievements, the group referenced Jonathan’s administration as one that prioritised reforms and ility, while also pointing to the outcomes of the 2014 National Conference as still relevant to discussions on national restructuring.

In addition, the coalition criticised comments by Atiku Abubakar questioning Jonathan’s experience, describing such remarks as inconsistent with his record in public service.

Ohikere further noted that Jonathan’s peaceful transfer of power in 2015 remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history, underscoring his respect for constitutional order.

The group confirmed that consultations with stakeholders and political actors are ongoing, with plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also urged Nigerians to reflect carefully on leadership choices as the country looks toward the future.
