Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday appeared before the African Democratic Congress ADC presidential screening panel, where he pledged to address insecurity and revive Nigeria’s struggling economy if elected president.
The appearance formed part of the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections and provided Atiku the opportunity to present his vision for the country.
In a statement issued after the screening exercise by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president described the engagement as more than a routine political process.
According to the statement, Atiku used the session to outline practical solutions aimed at tackling Nigeria’s growing economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and declining investor confidence.
The presidential aspirant expressed concern over worsening insecurity across the country, noting that many Nigerians continue to face kidnappings, violent s, and ings in different regions.
He stated that the country could not continue on a path where businesses are collapsing, economic uncertainty persists, and citizens struggle daily due to unle policies and weak institutions.
Atiku explained that his economic agenda would focus on job creation, strengthening the private sector, maintaining fiscal discipline, and attracting sustainable local and foreign investments into the country.
On security, the former vice president promised to implement intelligence driven operations, improve collaboration among security agencies, and support decentralised security structures to effectively combat criminal activities nationwide.
“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership and courage to make necessary national decisions,” Atiku stated during the screening.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria where citizens can live peacefully and pursue opportunities without fear.
Political observers believe Atiku’s appearance before the ADC screening panel marks another major step in his anticipated presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former vice president remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures and continues to attract attention within the evolving political landscape as parties begin early preparations for the next general election cycle.
