Onanuga Blasts Peter Obi as Political Tensions Rise Over ADC Membership

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has sharply criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as one of the most inconsistent and opportunistic politicians in Nigeria’s history.

Onanuga’s remarks followed Obi’s recent interview on Arise Television, where he suggested he could leave the African Democratic Congress if the party’s internal processes were compromised. Reacting via social media, Onanuga referenced Obi’s history of moving across multiple political parties, including APGA, PDP and the Labour Party, questioning his consistency.

In the interview that sparked the reaction, Obi defended his political decisions, insisting that his movements were driven by principle rather than personal ambition. He maintained that he would not hesitate to leave any political platform that fails to uphold transparency and fairness.

Obi also addressed his departure from the Labour Party, alleging that internal sabotage forced him out. He claimed that certain elements deliberately created crises within the party, expecting him to remain and be politically weakened, but he chose to exit instead.

Speaking on his current position within the ADC, Obi acknowledged that he is now working alongside individuals he previously parted ways with in other parties. However, he emphasised that what matters is their present conduct and commitment to credible political processes.

He reiterated that integrity remains central to his political ideology, stressing that he would continue to advocate for ce regardless of the number of times he has to switch platforms. According to him, building a better political future requires abandoning outdated systems and embracing new approaches.

The exce highlights growing political tensions ahead of future elections, as debates over party loyalty, ideology and internal democracy continue to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.
