Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly denied reports suggesting he is withdrawing from active politics, describing the claims as a deliberate attempt to weaken the rising influence of the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement released on Tuesday, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, dismissed allegations that Atiku had informed party stakeholders of any decision to step aside. According to him, while the former presidential candidate recently held consultations with political stakeholders in Adamawa State, no such meeting occurred at the national level.

Shaibu emphasized that a decision as significant as withdrawing from politics would not be communicated through unofficial channels. He described the circulating reports as “anonymous leaks” and “faceless propaganda,” insisting that any major announcement would be made formally and transparently.

He further characterized the rumours as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign linked to shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to Shaibu, Atiku remains a central figure in ongoing political realignments across the country.

Drawing a metaphor, he described Atiku as a “centre of gravity” in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, suggesting that his influence continues to attract alliances and shape opposition strategies.

The statement also alleged that the false narrative may have originated from elements within the political elishment unsettled by growing calls for ce and coalition building.

Supporters and members of the African Democratic Congress were urged to remain focused, with assurances that the movement would not be derailed by misinformation or political pressure.

Atiku’s camp maintained that his commitment to national politics and democratic development remains firm, despite ongoing speculation.
