The South East chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC has dismissed allegations that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma diverted N800 billion meant for President Bola Tinubu’s re election campaign, describing the claims as false, baseless, and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the APC National Vice Chairman South East, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the party said the allegation was part of a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of Uzodimma following reports that he may contest the Imo East senatorial seat in 2027.
According to the party, Governor Uzodimma remains focused on delivering good governance, sustainable development, and improved welfare for the people of Imo State despite the ongoing accusations.
The APC stated that the governor, like every eligible Nigerian citizen, has the constitutional right to contest any political office of his choice. It warned against using false accusations and blackmail to discourage political participation.
The party also rejected claims that the Progressive Governors Forum operated as a campaign organisation for President Tinubu’s re election bid. It explained that no official campaign funds for the 2027 election currently exist because political campaigns have not officially commenced under Nigerian law.
According to the statement, the allegation lacks logic and credibility, especially considering the reported N800 billion figure. The APC argued that such an amount would require each member of the Progressive Governors Forum to contribute around N26 billion, which it described as unrealistic and laughable.
The party further noted that Governor Uzodimma has maintained a strong record of transparency and accountability throughout his public service career and has never been credibly linked to corruption or financial misconduct.
The APC South East urged opposition groups to focus on presenting practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges rather than spreading political propaganda aimed at discrediting prominent leaders.
