The ruling All Progressives Congress has concluded preparations for its highly anticipated National Convention scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. A total of 8,453 delegates are expected to participate in the exercise, which will see the emergence of a new National Working Committee.

Chairman of the convention’s central coordination committee, Aminu Bello Masari, alongside the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday.

Masari addressed controversies surrounding the party’s zoning arrangement, defending it as essential for maintaining balance and unity within the party. He explained that allocating positions across geopolitical zones aligns with the principle of federal character and ensures inclusiveness. According to him, aspirants vying for positions outside their designated zones could be attempting to deilize the party.

He also dismissed speculations about possible legal challenges to the zoning formula, noting that the party had not received any official court notice. He maintained that the APC remains committed to conducting a smooth and transparent convention.

On his part, Idris provided details on the composition of delegates, stating that participants would come from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He reassured party members that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a successful event.

Addressing concerns over funding, Idris revealed that the party is operating a flexible, self adjusting budget to accommodate its needs. He emphasized that the APC has no outstanding financial obligations related to the convention and does not intend to incur any debts.

Security for delegates traveling to Abuja was also highlighted as a priority. Idris expressed confidence in the safety measures put in place, noting that no incidents had been recorded so far. He added that the administration of Bola Tinubu is committed to improving infrastructure and ensuring safe movement across the country.

The convention is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s leadership structure and future direction ahead of upcoming political activities.
