The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Benjamin Kalu, has reiterated that no individual, including President Bola Tinubu, owns the All Progressives Congress APC. He made the statement on Wednesday while addressing APC stakeholders during the ward congress in Umuahia, Abia State.

Kalu urged party members to embrace unity and cohesion as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections, emphasising that the party belongs to all its members. He said the party’s focus is to eliminate internal divisions and build a united front anchored on discipline, inclusion and purpose.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the party had rescheduled its Ward and Local Government congresses for February 25 and February 26, respectively, after resolving internal conflicts. Kalu explained that the earlier congress was cancelled due to multiple factions in the state, which violated directives from the party’s national leadership.

He described the current exercise as a “congress of harmonisation,” aimed at giving stakeholders a sense of belonging and participation in deciding leadership from the ward level to the state. Kalu emphasised that neither he nor anyone else would own the party, noting that this vision aligns with President Tinubu’s principle of collective ownership.

In a related statement, Emmanuel Goar, Chairman of the Congress Committee, promised a peaceful and transparent process while urging cooperation from stakeholders. Forms for the congress were distributed across the 184 wards in the state, with the Local Government congress scheduled for Thursday, February 26.

The leadership said the harmonisation congress will strengthen party cohesion and ensure all members feel relevant in its decision-making process, reflecting APC’s commitment to unity, expansion and preparation for the 2027 elections.
