Heavy security presence was observed across polling centres in Nasarawa State as the All Progressive Congress APC conducted its House of Representatives primaries on 16th May 2026.

Police officers and other security personnel were deployed to various ward headquarters and voting centres to maintain law and order and prevent any possible breakdown of peace during the exercise.

Despite the early deployment of security operatives, many polling centres had yet to receive election materials as of 3pm, causing delays in the commencement of voting activities across the state.

Monitoring teams observed that several voting points remained empty while party members waited patiently for officials and materials to arrive before the exercise could begin.

Speaking with journalists, one APC member expressed frustration over the delay, stating that he had arrived at the voting venue around 10am but voting had still not commenced several hours later.

Meanwhile, reports from Gudi, the hometown of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, indicated that the governor had successfully cast his vote during the primary election process.

Earlier in the day, the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, Dr Aliyu Bello, assured party members that all arrangements had been concluded for the smooth conduct of the primaries across the state.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, stated that primary elections are strictly internal affairs of political parties, while security agencies are only responsible for ensuring peace and public safety at the venues.

He added that the APC House of Representatives primaries were generally peaceful with no incidents of violence recorded at the time of filing the report.
