Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has been named the 2025 New Telegraph Outstanding Governor of the Year for his administration’s transformative projects across the state.

The award was presented on Friday during the New Telegraph Awards and dinner night at the Grand Ballroom of the Lagos Oriental Hotel. A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noted that the recognition was in honor of Lawal’s wide-ranging reforms in key sectors, including education, urban renewal, and the provision of basic amenities aimed at improving living standards and promoting sustainable development.

The Board of Editors of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company highlighted the governor’s efforts to resolve a 13-year backlog of civil servant gratuities exceeding 16 billion Naira, as well as his payment of outstanding WAEC and NECO fees accumulated over three years. These interventions, among others, contributed to the award decision.

Accepting the honor, Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to the management and editors of the newspaper, describing the recognition as a morale booster for him and his cabinet. “This recognition serves as a morale boost that will motivate me and my cabinet to increase our efforts in implementing more projects and interventions for the benefit of our people in Zamfara,” he said.

The award underscores Governor Lawal’s commitment to development and governance, positioning him among Nigeria’s most proactive state leaders in infrastructure, education, and citizen welfare.
