Croatian chefs are serving up Latin American flavours in the heart of Zagreb this week, transforming Strossmayer Square into a vibrant street food destination. Fiesta Latina launched Monday with 11 food and drink stands offering everything from Cuban sandwiches to Peruvian ceviche, all crafted by some of the country’s most respected culinary talent.
The lineup is impressive. Chef Mate Janković is slinging classic Cuban sandwiches loaded with pulled pork and Emmental cheese at Cubano by Institut za burgere. Over at Taquería Cato, you’ll find Birria Beef served with dipping broth alongside y margaritas. Chef Tom Gretić’s MexBurg combines mozzarella with guacamole and chipotle mayo, while pastry chef Juraj Klepić is pushing boundaries with Choco Fuego, a bold dessert mixing chocolate, chilli and crispy nachos.
Want more than just food? The festival programme includes DJ sets, dance workshops and tail making classes throughout the week. Saturday brings a flea market and themed party.
Running through August 30, the festival offers Zagreb residents and visitors alike a rare chance to sample Latin street food without leaving Croatia. The crowds on opening day suggest organisers hit the right note.
