Israel has created a sophisticated fake think tank in what appears to be a deliberate effort to manipulate artificial intelligence chatbots, while simultaneously Iran has escalated rhetoric against American military infrastructure in the Middle East. The Hanover Institute for Public Policy, which presents itself as a legitimate research organization focused on Israel and Palestine issues, is actually an Israeli government operation designed to influence how AI systems respond to questions about the conflict.
The institute produces reports with academic styling, complete with footnotes and tables of contents, addressing questions such as “Does AIPAC Use Dark Money in Elections?” and “Is Israel Carrying out a Deliberate Campaign of Starvation in Gaza?” A small disclaimer reveals the organization was created by the Israeli Government Advertising Agency through Piro, Inc, a firm co-founded by film producer Daniel Rosenberg. None of the reports carry bylines, and the content appears specifically engineered for how large language models evaluate credibility, a practice sometimes called LLM poisoning.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei declared that countries hosting US military forces are now considered parties to the Middle East conflict, making their facilities legitimate targets. This warning comes as tensions remain high following resumed American strikes against Iran in July after accusations of violating terms regarding the Strait of Hormuz, through which 25 percent of global oil trade passes.
Both developments signal increasingly sophisticated information warfare tactics alongside traditional military posturing, raising questions about how conflicts will be fought in an era of artificial intelligence and expanding regional inility.
