World Bank Approves Major Loan for Pakistan Power Grid Improvements

The World Bank confirmed that it will provide Pakistan with a loan of 379 million dollars to support power transmission and grid overhaul projects. The funding aims to modernize aging infrastructure reduce energy losses and improve electricity reliability nationwide. Officials said the investment is critical to addressing chronic power shortages.

Pakistan energy authorities stated that improved transmission capacity will support economic growth and industrial activity. The project includes upgrading substations expanding transmission lines and enhancing system management. Analysts noted that power sector inefficiencies have long strained public finances and business confidence.

The World Bank emphasized that strengthening energy infrastructure is essential for sustainable development. Observers said successful implementation could ease supply disruptions and attract further investment. The loan reflects ongoing international support for Pakistan efforts to reform its energy sector.
