The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has officially opened a new district known as Waru Pozema and assured residents that the administration will provide essential infrastructure to support development and immediate settlement.
Wike made the announcement on Thursday while speaking with journalists after inspecting several ongoing projects across the Federal Capital Territory. The new district is located in Cadastral Zone D16 and is expected to become a growing residential and development hub once basic facilities are provided.
According to the minister, the FCT Administration will work closely with relevant agencies including the Federal Capital Development Authority to determine the necessary infrastructure required to open up the district for habitation. He noted that discussions would also be held to determine whether the project is captured in the 2026 budget.
Wike assured that the government is committed to ensuring that the district becomes accessible and suitable for residents and investors.
He also expressed satisfaction with the progress of several judicial infrastructure projects across the territory. The minister revealed that contractors handling the Court of Appeal complex have promised to complete the project by May.
The judicial housing project includes ten duplexes for the Federal High Court, twenty duplexes for the FCT High Court and another ten duplexes for the Court of Appeal. According to Wike, the residential facilities for judges have already been furnished and are expected to be inaugurated during the third anniversary of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the inspection tour, the minister also visited a major road project in Katampe, describing it as functioning like a ring road that will help improve movement across the city.
Wike explained that his frequent inspection of projects is driven by the responsibility given to him by the presidency. He said the trust placed in him by the president requires total commitment to delivering infrastructure and development across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister also spoke about national politics, urging members of the Peoples Democratic Party to prioritise unity and reconciliation. He stressed that internal reconciliation within the party must come before discussions about future election strategies ahead of the party’s next convention.
