The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a strong criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a “serial contestant and ” while dismissing his claims that the current administration has failed Nigerians.
Wike made the remarks on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing road construction projects across Abuja. He argued that Atiku’s repeated presidential bids have not translated into meaningful contributions, predicting that the opposition figure would likely contest again in 2031.
Responding to criticisms about governance, Wike challenged Atiku to compare the present state of Abuja with the period when he served as vice president. According to the minister, significant improvements in infrastructure and urban development are evident under the current administration.
He also dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress that officials of the FCT attempted to disrupt its convention, stating that no such interference occurred and urging political actors to avoid seeking sympathy.
Highlighting progress on infrastructure, Wike revealed that the Airport to Kuje road project is nearing completion, with part of the bridge expected to open soon and the entire project set for delivery before the end of May. He added that the first phase of the Kuje to Gwagwalada road dualisation is also on track within the same timeframe.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the projects would significantly improve connectivity and ease pressure on central Abuja. He projected that Kuje would soon evolve into a major residential and commercial hub.
Wike reiterated that governance remains the administration’s priority, stressing that political activities would not slow development efforts. He disclosed that over 80 percent of planned infrastructure projects are expected to be completed before January.
