The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of the main carriageway between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop (Inbound Lagos) along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for a 12-week rehabilitation project. The works are set to begin on Saturday, March 7, and are expected to continue until Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the closure will enable the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out reconstruction safely and efficiently. During this period, the Lagos-bound lane from Super Bus-Stop to Ilepo Bus-Stop will be completely closed to traffic, while the Abeokuta bound lane will operate as normal.

Motorists have been advised to follow alternative routes to minimize disruption. Option one involves diverting from Abeokuta or Sango Tollgate to Lagos/Oshodi via the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor, exiting at Pleasure Bus-Stop (Ilepo). Option two is to take Ekoro Road to Old Otta Road, continue through Alira Street, and connect to Abeokuta Street leading to Pleasure Bus-Stop. Option three allows motorists to pass through Abule Egba Underbridge to Agege before continuing to their destinations.

Emergency tow vehicles will be stationed along the BRT corridor to manage breakdowns and ensure quick recovery. Osiyemi urged drivers to cooperate with traffic management officials, follow signage, and exercise patience to ensure the smooth execution of the rehabilitation works.

“The cooperation of motorists will help achieve a better motoring experience upon completion of the project,” the commissioner added.

This initiative is part of the Lagos State Government’s continued efforts to improve road safety, enhance traffic flow, and maintain critical infrastructure across the state.
