A factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has assured members that the party is taking all steps to ensure it features prominently on the ballot in the 2027 general elections. Turaki made the remarks on Friday in Abuja during the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of his faction.

Despite ongoing leadership disputes within the party, Turaki said the PDP remains a viable platform for all aspirants. “It is my pleasure to inform us that the leadership is working round the clock to ensure PDP remains a veritable platform for all our members wishing to contest elections both in 2027 and beyond,” he stated.

He emphasized that the party’s leadership had delayed the meeting to fully analyse unfolding scenarios both inside and outside the courtroom regarding the leadership crisis. This would guide members in taking informed decisions to strengthen the party and safeguard democracy.

Addressing defections of high profile members to other political parties, Turaki stressed that the PDP would not collapse. “PDP has become an institution as far as democracy in Nigeria is concerned. Nobody or no group can claim this is their party,” he said.

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, urged members to remain steadfast while awaiting a report from the reconciliation committee led by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. PDP House of Representatives Caucus Leader, Hon. Fred Agbedi, said the lawmakers remaining in the chamber were ready for the political battle ahead.

Tony Azigbemi, Chairman of State Chairmen representing 28 states, reaffirmed loyalty to Turaki’s leadership, criticizing unilateral appointments of national officers by select individuals. He described the internal struggle as a fight between light and darkness and pledged continued support for the faction’s leadership.
