President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday took part in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary held at Ward E in Ikoyi, Lagos, as the ruling party commenced its nationwide exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The presidential couple arrived at the venue in a motorcade and were received by a large crowd of party supporters, security operatives, and members of the press. The atmosphere was marked by heavy presence of APC members, many dressed in traditional attire, as they gathered to witness the ward level exercise.

Video footage from the event showed the President and First Lady moving through a dense crowd of party faithful as security personnel managed access within the venue. The exercise forms part of the APC’s broader ward level primaries scheduled across the country in May 2026, aimed at selecting candidates for the 2027 elections.

After participating in the process, President Tinubu described the exercise as a strong example of internal democracy within the ruling party. He noted that the process had been peaceful and well organised across various locations nationwide.

“Demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going very well according to plan. This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved,” Tinubu said.

He added that ensuring credible internal democracy remains a key responsibility of his administration and praised the organisation of the exercise across the country.

“My challenge is to ensure that we have an internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised,” he stated.

The President also commended APC governors for their roles in managing the electoral process in their respective states, noting that party congresses and delegate accreditation had been conducted smoothly.

“From the world congresses, to local government congresses, to the delegation accreditation, validation, members register and certification of the electoral process. It has been going very well,” he said.

Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, describing it as a reflection of democratic maturity within the party and a positive sign for Nigeria’s political system ahead of the next general election.
