President Bola Tinubu has admitted that the economic reforms introduced by his administration have been difficult for Nigerians, revealing that he has personally experienced sleepless nights and weight loss while steering the country through challenging times.
Tinubu made the remarks on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja shortly after emerging as the winner of the All Progressives Congress APC presidential primary for the 2027 general elections. The President officially accepted the party’s nomination to seek a second term in office.
Addressing party leaders governors and supporters Tinubu said the sacrifices made by Nigerians over the last three years were not ignored by his administration. He explained that the tough fiscal and economic policies were necessary to ilize a country he described as being in poor condition before he assumed office.
According to the President the reforms were designed to rebuild the economy and create a stronger foundation for future growth despite the temporary hardship experienced by citizens.
“I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost sleep I have lost some too. If you have lost weight I have lost some too,” Tinubu stated during his speech.
He added that he remained committed to fulfilling the mandate Nigerians gave him in 2022 when he contested for the presidency.
Tinubu secured a landslide victory in the APC presidential primary after polling 10,999,162 votes to defeat his only challenger Stanley Osifo who received 16,503 votes. The direct primary election was conducted across all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards nationwide.
The President praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise describing it as evidence of Nigeria’s growing democratic maturity. He noted that there was no violence or political tension during the process and commended party members for their unity and support.
Tinubu also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future saying the country must remain focused on unity development and democratic progress ahead of the 2027 elections.
