Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo has dismissed comments by human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, calling them an inconsequential rant, over allegations of “transactional politics” in his activism.

Sowore’s remarks, which circulated in a viral video, accused some regional agitators of aligning with political actors for personal or material gain, seemingly referencing Igboho’s positions including support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential re election bid. Sowore described such moves as “amala politics,” implying opportunism over principled activism.

In response, Igboho through his media aide Olayomi Koiki emphasized that his advocacy prioritises security and the collective interests of the Yoruba people rather than personal gain. He highlighted ongoing agitation against ings of farmers, kidnappings along highways, and s on traditional rulers in the South West.

Igboho criticised Sowore for alleged inconsistencies, noting, “How many protests did Sowore organise to push for my freedom? Sowore’s claim of fighting for the masses contradicts his alleged daily lodging expenses of N450,000 at a popular Lagos hotel.” He added that he could not be compelled to endorse other political figures and would make independent political decisions based on regional security needs.

Koiki clarified that Igboho’s movement is focused on protecting lives land and property within Yoruba territory rather than seeking political office or revolutionary leadership. The statement also pointed to ongoing security challenges in northern Nigeria including explosions in Maiduguri as examples questioning the effectiveness of nationwide revolutionary approaches.

The statement concluded that labelling Igboho’s activism as “amala politics” undermines both the urgency of the security crisis in Yorubaland and the legitimacy of grassroots agitation aimed at ensuring safety and development for vulnerable communities.
