Sanwo Olu Backs Acting IGP Olatunji Disu to Deliver Accountable Policing

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has expressed strong confidence in the capacity of newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu to meet the expectations of Nigerians for a professional and trustworthy police force.

Sanwo Olu described Disu appointment by President Bola Tinubu as well deserved and a moment of pride for Lagos State. In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor praised Disu for his competence professionalism and decades of dedicated service to the Nigeria Police Force.

Congratulating the new Acting IGP, Sanwo Olu said Disu elevation to the highest policing office in the country was a great honour for Lagos. He noted that Disu has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership across various commands formations and departments nationwide.

The governor specifically referenced Disu tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he earned a reputation for reform driven policing and operational efficiency. The unit gained popularity among residents for its swift response to criminal activities and community engagement efforts.

Sanwo Olu further stated that Disu broad experience at state national and international levels positions him well to tackle the complex security challenges facing Nigeria. According to him the Acting IGP brings over three decades of hands on policing experience which will be crucial in strengthening public trust enhancing transparency and ensuring accountability within the force.

He expressed optimism that Disu leadership would usher in a new phase of courage professionalism and integrity in law enforcement. The governor also reiterated Lagos State commitment to supporting federal security agencies in maintaining peace and safety for all citizens.

Disu appointment has continued to draw reactions from political leaders and stakeholders who view his emergence as a significant development in the nation security architecture.
