Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has promised to deliver the state for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

He made this promise on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt after receiving his All Progressives Congress (APC) membership card from the State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha.

Fubara also said he would take full responsibility for the wellbeing and needs of the party in Rivers State.

As the leader of the APC in the state, he vowed to keep the party active and ensure that members of the state executive are well supported.

Just a few days earlier, Fubara left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC, following the defection of 17 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly to the ruling party.

He explained that with him leading the APC in Rivers, it would be easier to rally support to help Tinubu win reelection.

After receiving his membership card, Fubara said his decision to join the APC was made in the interest of the state’s progress.

He described his defection as a way to repay Tinubu for his efforts to keep him in office as governor.

Fubara said, “I thank my chairman for accepting to take on this spiritual assignment. When I made this decision, it was for the safety, protection, progress, and development of our state.

“We cannot work in opposition to the Federal Government, which is led by the ruling party. There is every reason to support Mr. President. I know the sacrifices he has made to keep us in government.

“So, I took this decision as a way to clear the path and make Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 smooth and easy in Rivers. Now that we are united in one party, it will be easier to continue what we promised the President.

“We will do everything to keep APC as the main progressive party in Rivers State. From this moment, it is my responsibility to ensure the party is well taken care of. I promise that every need of the party and its executives in this state is now my responsibility.”

At the launch of the construction of the By-pass to Port Harcourt International Airport and Toll Gate Road, attended by the Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, Fubara declared himself the “001” member of the APC in Rivers State.
