Domestic carrier Rano Air has announced a temporary suspension of some of its flight operations, citing the sharp and unsustainable rise in aviation fuel prices across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Friday, the airline said the drastic increase in Jet A1 fuel has made several routes commercially unviable, forcing management to scale down operations temporarily in order to maintain safety and operational ility.

According to the airline, aviation fuel prices have risen by more than 300 percent, placing severe pressure on operating costs and significantly affecting the sustainability of flight services.

The airline explained that the decision was difficult but necessary, stressing that the situation reflects a wider challenge currently facing the aviation industry in Nigeria.

It noted that the rising fuel costs have increased operational strain, making it impossible to continue certain routes under present conditions without risking financial inility.

Rano Air assured passengers that the suspension is temporary and that efforts are underway to minimise disruption for affected travellers.

The airline stated that customers with existing bookings on impacted routes will be supported through refunds, rescheduling, or rerouting options depending on availability.

It also confirmed that its customer service teams have been deployed to assist passengers and handle inquiries related to the suspension.

The carrier expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, adding that the decision was taken in the interest of maintaining safe, reliable, and sustainable flight operations.

Industry stakeholders have continued to warn that the rising cost of aviation fuel is putting pressure on both local and international carriers operating in Nigeria, with fears that more airlines could adjust or reduce flight schedules if the trend persists
