Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued an unidentified elderly man who reportedly collapsed beside Dozzy Filling Station along the busy Onitsha Owerri Road in the Okpoko area of Anambra State.

The incident caused concern among commuters and residents as the man was seen lying unconscious by the roadside, leading to temporary disruption of vehicular and pedestrian movement along the highway.

According to eyewitnesses, several passersby hesitated to assist the victim because they could not determine the cause of his condition. A nearby shop owner explained that some people feared the man may have been under the influence of an unknown substance, while others simply avoided getting involved.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said police officers attached to the Okpoko Division discovered the elderly man during a routine foot patrol and immediately rushed him to a hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Ikenga noted that the victim is currently receiving medical attention while efforts are ongoing to identify him and locate his family members or relatives.

He called on members of the public with useful information concerning the identity or residence of the man to report to the Okpoko Police Division or contact the nearest police station.

The police spokesperson stated that the command remains committed to protecting lives and showing compassion to residents across the state through community friendly policing initiatives.

In a related development, the police command also announced that it had fulfilled a promise made during the National Police Day celebration by paying the second term school fees of five outstanding pupils in Anambra State.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, the initiative is aimed at encouraging academic excellence, supporting education, and promoting community development across the state.

The command reaffirmed its dedication to combining effective security operations with people centered programmes that strengthen trust and improve relationships between the police and the public.
