Nigerian entertainer Portable has stirred fresh controversy after openly challenging heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua to a celebrity fight, demanding a ₦1 billion purse before stepping into the ring.
The singer made the bold statement on Thursday during a public face off ahead of his upcoming celebrity boxing match against streamer Carter Efe. Confident in his abilities, Portable declared himself the face of Nigerian boxing and insisted that no opponent could take his so called belt.
According to him, only a ₦1 billion offer would convince him to face Anthony Joshua, one of the most recognized names in global boxing. His remarks quickly sparked reactions across social media, with fans debating the seriousness of the challenge.
Portable is scheduled to face Carter Efe on Friday in an exhibition bout at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event is part of a growing trend of celebrity boxing matches in Nigeria that blend entertainment and sport.
The singer also revealed that he received ₦40 million for agreeing to fight Carter Efe. He added that businessman E Money and music executive Soso Soberekon have reportedly pledged additional financial incentives, including ₦50 million and a car if he wins the bout.
Carter Efe, on his part, said he accepted the fight after being told the winner would take home ₦50 million, making the contest as much about entertainment as competition.
Portable has become a recurring figure in Nigeria’s celebrity boxing scene, previously recording wins against social media personality Speed Darlington in 2025, actor Charles Okocha in 2023, and Kelvin Power, the bodyguard of singer Kizz Daniel, in 2024.
While a fight between Portable and Anthony Joshua remains highly unlikely, the singer’s comments have once again placed him at the centre of Nigeria’s entertainment and sports conversation.
