Peter Obi Emerges Sole Presidential Aspirant as NDC Closes 2027 Form Sales

The Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC has officially closed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential election ticket with indications that former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi is the only aspirant who purchased the forms.

Sources within the party confirmed that Obi who served as governor of Anambra State was the sole contender to secure the presidential forms before the deadline expired. This development has strengthened speculations that he may emerge as the consensus presidential candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile the NDC announced a one week extension for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for other elective positions. The extension affects aspirants seeking tickets for governorship Senate House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly elections.

In a statement released by the National Secretary Mr Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu the party disclosed that the earlier deadline of May 17 2026 has now been moved to May 24 2026 for all non presidential aspirants. However the party stressed that the presidential form sales have officially ended with no further extension.

According to the party timetable screening of aspirants will begin on May 19 and end on May 26 2026. Collection and submission of nomination forms for cleared aspirants will run from May 20 to May 26.

The NDC urged all aspirants to appear for screening with relevant documents including educational certificates voter cards membership cards birth certificates passport photographs and curriculum vitae. The party also stated that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies.

The party emphasized that screening would focus on competence leadership capacity integrity and local considerations while also promoting affirmative action for women youths and persons living with disabilities.
