PDP Staff Reaffirm Support for Tanimu Turaki Led Leadership Amid Court Rulings

The management and staff of the People’s Democratic Party and the People’s Democratic Institute have reiterated their support for the Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee. In a joint statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, 76 staff members declared that they would not recognise any alternative leadership outside the NWC elected at the party’s national convention in Ibadan on November 15 and 16 2025.

Describing themselves as custodians of the PDP Secretariat, the staff emphasised that the Turaki led leadership was validly elected according to the party constitution and sanctioned by all legitimate organs. They highlighted that party leadership and convention matters fall within the internal affairs of the party, consistently supported by Supreme Court precedents, and argued that attempts by the courts to create a caretaker committee were inconsistent with party rules.

The staff noted that the national convention had been legally convened by the National Executive Committee during its 101st meeting in July 2025 and that Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 had been followed, with INEC present at the convention. They expressed surprise at judicial actions to allocate positions to unelected individuals, stating that no member outside the elected NWC can claim office under any guise.

While commending the Turaki leadership for filing an appeal and seeking a stay of execution against lower court rulings, the staff called on the National Judicial Council to intervene and caution judges over inconsistent decisions. The statement urged party members nationwide to remain steadfast and focused as the PDP positions itself for the 2027 general elections.

The declaration underlines the commitment of the PDP staff to the Turaki led leadership and reinforces the party’s internal processes amid ongoing legal disputes.
