Days after stepping down as Edo State Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu has officially declared his intention to contest for the Oredo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Iyamu made the announcement at the APC Secretariat in Oredo Local Government Area, where party leaders and supporters gathered to show solidarity. Among those present were Uyi Igbe, Patrick Obahiagbon, and Valentine Asue.

Addressing supporters, Iyamu dismissed rumours questioning his loyalty to the APC, insisting he has been a committed member of the party since 2016. He stated that his contributions to the party include grassroots mobilisation, financial support for youth leaders, and active involvement in election campaigns in 2020 and 2024.

He also referenced his political ties to Osagie Ize Iyamu, noting that his long standing relationship and shared efforts have strengthened the party in the state. Iyamu expressed confidence in his chances, pointing to what he described as his track record in public service and constituency development.

Highlighting his grassroots engagement, he spoke about empowerment initiatives for women and youths, including support for small businesses and monthly assistance programmes in Ward 10 since 2019. According to him, these efforts demonstrate his commitment to improving livelihoods at the community level.

Iyamu further dismissed claims that he had been rejected at the ward level, describing such allegations as false and politically motivated.

In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Oredo, Osamudiamen Osarenkhoe, urged party members to remain united and avoid internal conflicts. He described Iyamu as a loyal party member who respects leadership and party structures.

As the race for the Oredo Federal Constituency seat begins to take shape, Iyamu’s declaration signals the start of what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in Edo State.
