Outrage in Delta State After Alleged Gang of Mentally Unle 13-Year-Old

In a deeply disturbing incident that has rocked Ugbomoro in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, a 13-year-old girl, described as mentally unle, was allegedly gang-d by four young men. The incident, which took place on January 24, has sparked significant community outrage and demands for justice from the victim’s family.

According to reports gathered by SaharaReporters, the young girl was tricked into going to a house while on an evening errand. A source close to the matter stated, “They d the girl till daybreak,” highlighting the brutal nature of the assault. This has not only brought the safety of minors into sharp focus but has also prompted the community to call for swift and stringent action from local authorities.

The family of the victim is pressing for the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this heinous act. Their plea has resonated with community members who are now advocating for better protection mechanisms for vulnerable individuals, especially those with mental health issues.

Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, acknowledging the severity of the case. He stated that one suspect has been apprehended, but three others are still at large. “Yes, it’s true. The girl involved is mentally unle. We have arrested one suspect while three others are on the run,” Edafe disclosed to SaharaReporters.

The police have assured the public that they are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, emphasizing their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice. This case has reignited discussions on the need for enhanced security measures, better mental health support, and the protection of children and those with mental disabilities in Delta State.

The community’s response has been one of solidarity with the victim, showcasing a collective demand for justice, accountability, and preventive measures to avoid future occurrences of such heinous acts.
